Indoor Program Presentation: Thomsen River with Brian Johnston
Thursday, April 25, 2024
St. James Legion
1755 Portage Avenue
Winnipeg, MB
7:00 - 9:00 pm
Well loved presenter Brian Johnston is back from the remote far north and will share his canoe trip experience on the short and shallow Thomsen River. It’s said to be the most northerly navigable river in North America and not a river that he really ever expected to canoe. Catching the spring bloom in July and travelling at a leisurely pace, he will forever be haunted by the “death assemblages” he witnessed on the tundra: thousands of bones and skulls at kill sites of Inuit hunters from the 19th century. Come hear what Banks Island in the Canadian Arctic has to offer!
We will also honour recipients of the Victoria Jason Award for their contributions to Paddle Manitoba.
Unfortunately Sandy Hudson will not be atttending with copies of her book (How to) Kayak Manitoba available for purchase and signing as origianlly scheduled.
Food and drinks available. Cash only.
Admission: $5 members, $10 non-members
